One of the most, if not most common question asked among beginner golfers is : what equipment do i need to play golf? Clubs are probably obvious, but there are tons of other widgets and apparel that you might find useful. Still, lots of beginners are given pretty bad advice regarding buying golf clubs, so we’ll talk about that as well. Choosing golf clubs that are good fit for you is one of the keys to success and enjoyment in golf, so it can not be ignored. So let’s dive in and explore what golf equipment do you really need to get started with golf.

Renting vs buying

Let’s first discuss the issue of deciding between renting or buying your golf clubs. Both options have their advantages and disadvantages, both of which we’ll explore in detail. Renting, obviously is advantageous because it requires less upfront investment on golf clubs. They are one of the biggest expense for beginner golfers, so getting rid of that is helpful for some. Also, irons are very important and the ones with game improvement design can actually help you in getting better results. Obvious drawback is that you have to keep paying for your clubs forever. Renting golf clubs can be great way to find out whether you like golf or not and whether you want to play it in the future. This is especially true if you’re thinking of getting high end clubs right away. There’s no point in paying thousands for clubs just to find out that you aren’t into golf anyway. I see people do this all the time, and after letting their clubs sit idly in the closet, they finally sell them for the fraction of the price they paid for them. One big disadvantage that rented golf clubs have is that they can’t be fitted to match your physique. This can be problematic because only golf clubs that are fitted to match your requirements will allow you to reach your full potential.

What about accessories other than golf clubs?

First and most important golf accessory that comes to mind is a golf bag. Having golf bag isn’t optional, because other ways of carrying your golf clubs with you all around the course plain don’t work. If you bought or rented golf club set, that set is likely to have come with golf bag as a package. If you didn’t get a club set, you can buy one separately. Depending on quality and style of the bag, it will cost you somewhere between 50 and 200 dollars. When you’re just a beginner, i think you don’t need to overspend on something fancy. Any golf bag that gets the job done should be fine at that point.

Golf gloves are also very important, because hands are what you play golf with, and you need to make sure that they’re always in top shape, instead of being bruised or otherwise damaged. How you grip and handle your golf clubs is also important, because it can have pretty big impact on how your swing and golf shot will turn out.

Another piece of golf gear that is extremely important to have is the tees. They are what you put your golf ball on to hit it properly.

Other gear

Except for these, there are many pieces of golf gear that i find useful. But i decided to list very essential pieces of equipment here to not overcomplicate things. I also like and frequently use golf rangefinders, because i think they are very convenient and make game of golf that much easier. If it tends to rain often in your living area, always having golf umbrella with you is also excellent idea. Water can damage your golf clubs as well as a bag, and you don’t want to take any risks. There are many other golf widgets, some useful, some not. Unfortunately i haven’t used them all so i have to conclude this tutorial here. I hope it was helpful to beginner golfers.
